Cut of the spade ceremony of the new 110-kV power line

Netz Burgenland is building a new 110 kV line between the two substations Oberpullendorf and Rotenturm. It is also about intensifying the use of renewable energies. The cut of the spade ceremony for the new infrastructure project took place on Monday, July 1, 2024.

A total of 141 electricity pylons will be erected over a length of 42 kilometers. The new 110-kV line runs parallel to the high-voltage line for long stretches. Its purpose is to connect the Oberpullendorf transformation substation with the Rotenturm transformation substation. From there there is a connection to the 380 kV network of the Austrian Power Grid.

Androsch: “We are missing a thousand kilometers of cables”

The project is being implemented by EUROPTEN, Hannes Androsch's company, for 55 million euros. According to the ex-SPÖ finance minister, the network expansion in Austria is far from finished: “We are missing a thousand kilometers of lines and for the Kaprun line alone - 120 kilometers - the process took 30 years.” If you don't speed it up, no mentioning of the energy transition needed.

In Burgenland, the major project completed the environmental impact assessment (EIA) in “record time”. “It is a special project if we build a 110-kV line over 42 kilometers without objections. On the one hand, this is something special in terms of procedural technology and, on the other hand, in my view, it is very important for closing the gap between Oberpullendorf and Oberwart in order to actually be able to bring the energy concepts that we want to implement into being," said State Governor Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ).

Expand renewable energies in Central Burgenland

The aim is to use the power of wind and sun even more intensively. “Northern, central and southern Burgenland will be connected by this line,” explained Burgenland Energie CEO Stephan Sharma.

During the June storms, we were able to see once again how important a secure power supply is. “And especially in central and southern Burgenland, we need to further expand the electricity infrastructure to ensure a secure power supply,” added Sharma.
