Project

380-kV-Ltg. Bertikow – Pasewalk

Project overview:

This project focuses on increasing the current carrying capacity of the 220 kV Bertikow - Pasewalk line. This is to be ensured by the construction and operation of the new 380 kV overhead line from the Bertikow substation to the Pasewalk substation.

The new pylon construction extends over the entire route from pylon 1 to pylon 47 and includes a large number of key components.

The foundation work is extremely varied, including the use of special foundations using large bored piles for three specific pylons and the construction of 44 slab foundations for a stable base. This ensures that the newly erected pylons meet the requirements of modern load-bearing standards.

An impressive 18.9 km of cable plays a central role in this project. This is not only crucial for connecting the newly erected pylons, but also for the smooth operation of the entire line. The pylon installation, which includes all 47 pylons, marks a milestone in the course of the project. These structural elements are not only load-bearing for the line, but also enable reliable and efficient power transmission. An innovative HighStep system is also being installed on each of the 47 pylons to increase the safety of the fitters.

Challenges:

We encountered a number of challenges in our project that changed our schedule. In the period from February to August, there were delays due to ecological restriction periods. Due to the disrupted construction schedule, it was not possible to work through the trades in chronological order. As a result, a complete guy section could only be erected after 9 months of construction work so that the first cable pulling work could begin.

The disconnection of the existing line in the crossing area between the new and old line was postponed from 2022 to 2024. This means that the subsequent remaining work cannot be carried out until 2024.

Project progress:

Significant progress was made between the start of construction in 2021 and the interruption of construction in 2022 due to missing circuits. The foundation work for a total of 47 pylons was successfully completed, including 3 special foundations/deep foundations and 44 slab foundations.

Pole installation for all 47 poles was also successfully completed, accompanied by a completed cable pull from pole 3 to pole 47.

After an interruption in construction and a planned resumption of work in June 2024, some remaining work is still pending. The cable is being pulled from pylon 3 to the Bertikow substation. It is planned to erect a temporary structure in front of the Bertikow substation to create a six-week interim state. This will allow the new 380 kV line to be temporarily commissioned using a system from the existing 220 kV line.

Once this phase is complete, the temporary structure and the entire existing 220 kV line will be dismantled from the Bertikow substation to pylon 320, a distance of around 16.5 km. This comprehensive dismantling includes the pylons, foundations and cables. The project is scheduled to end in December 2024, which we are optimistic about.
