Waldenburg Railway (Waldenburgerbahn)
The Waldenburg Railway is a Swiss narrow-gauge railway in the canton of Basel-Landschaft and connects the municipality of Waldenburg with Liestal, the capital of the canton. It is the only passenger-carrying railway in Switzerland that still uses a track gauge of 750 millimetres. On 7 June 2016 Waldenburgerbahn AG merged with Baselland Transport (BLT). The railway in the Waldenburg Valley will be completely renewed by 2022, including new tracks (with a gauge of 1,000 millimetres), new rolling stock, new stations and a new depot in Waldenburg. The investment volume amounts to a total of approximately CHF 300 million. As a member of a planning group EUROPTEN was commissioned to plan the railway electrification system and the return lines for the Waldenburg railway station, including workshop and depot, as well as two track sections. EUROPTEN’s services will cover all project phases from surveys to putting into operation and final documentation.
